| VALIDATING A XYLENE-FREE PROCESSING APPLICATION – FREE ARTICLE AVAILABLE FROM LABOTEC
Imagine, if you will, a faster, and cheaper way of processing tissue. Just when you though it could not be done, Tony Green HT(ASCP) from Jameson Health System at the Jameson Memorial Hospital, New Castle, UK headed the beta site for a study to investigate a new method developed to process tissue without xylene or a xylene substitute. In fact, the only xylene used is in the flush (cleaning) cycle.
In this article he discusses the hard cold facts, the drawback and problems encountered, as well as the advantages of using the Shandon Excelsior, which made the xylene-free processing a reality. In the article he waves goodbye to xylene, xylene substitutes, hazardous disposal, recycling and the fumes and the expenses of purchasing both xylene and alcohol.
